Welcome to Villa Vallombrosa, a 2,000-year-old winegrowing estate in the South of France. This vineyard has succeeded in preserving its full authentic character and the specificity of its terroir through the ages. Vines have been planted here since Roman times, digging deep into the strata of Trias-age limestone and red Permian-era earth for what they need. The association of these two soil types results in a wine of great quality—the Permian stratum gives richness and body whilst schist from the Massif des Maures mountains provides a pleasantly refreshing and elegant touch of minerality.

When Judith Melka and Philippe Peignier bought the wine estate formerly known as Domaine de Belles Courbes, they renamed it Chai Julip. Their arrival has given a new burst of energy to this winery which has a reputation for excellent St. Chinian wines. Clinging to the hillside on a bed of schist and sandstone, the vineyard lies at 200 metres altitude, to the north of Béziers. The vines are 40 years old on average and the original way in which they are planted, snaking around the three hills in curves following the contour lines, is one of the distinctive features of the estate.

In order to produce fruity, terroir-driven wines that express the full potential of the Vézelay area, he keeps yields low and employs traditional winemaking methods. The Jurassic limestone vineyard slopes are fully south-facing and give excellent quality wines.
